Time to get a new camera?

Gondolas in Venice

I wish that I had taken these shots on purpose as their artistic quality is quite interesting. However, this is actually a camera malfunction and I seem to be getting more and more pink pictures lately. In fact, all the shots from Burano and Venice were heavily cropped as there was a bright pink line on the left hand side of most shots. So it looks like the ol' Powershot A95 is running on her last legs and I think she might have to go.

I looked up this issue, and it seems to that issues with some Canon model's CCD image sensor can cause the screen to look like this and the taken photos. I can get it fixed for free but I have to find time now to go and take it into the repair shop or mail it in... and funnily enough the repair place for Switzerland is in Urdorf! I just need to find the time is all... Oh how I wish I were still unemployed for this reason... then again, not really!

I have been looking at new cameras and admit that the following are really awesome and I would love to upgrade to any one of them... I just can't decide if I want to get another point and shoot that I can throw in my purse and use daily or make the investment into an SLR.

Before I tell my favorites, if anyone has experience using any of these cameras, please post in the comments.

I always used Olympus...I only have hard time shooting at night without flash. I'm not a pro or semi-pro photographer, so I don't know about the professional ones.

We're trying to decide on a new camera too. A little shy about trying another Canon with the mysterious and unexplainable E18 error. The question is, pay a lot more in Switzerland or order from the US and pay duty?

Yes. That is the question isn´t it? You can also order from amazon.de I think for a reasonable price as the taxes dont apply to those in Switzerland. But some products can not be sent to Switzerland. I will report soon on what and where I go!

i have the canon xti. love, love, LOVE it!!! i'm just starting out with the manual settings, learning the SLR takes some time. but some of hte pictures taken with the presets are fantastic! i adjusted to looking through the viewfinder fairly quickly. so you might want to get the xti- i don't think there is a big difference between the xti and xsi other than that.

I have always bought a Canon and love mine. Mine are older versions. I have a point and shoot Canon PowerShot S2IS, which I love. The pictures are My Space and Facebook were taken with both this one and my SLR Canon Digital Rebel, one of the first models. I have an old SLR that uses film. The lenses from that camera fit my Digital one. If you have any questions about cameras, go to this website

we had a Canon powershot A80, and upgraded last winter to a Canon powershot A650, which is basically the newer version of the same model. We love the swivel screen for self-shots since we're mostly by ourselves when traveling. The size, weight and build are pretty much the same. It was a good upgrade, better quality and a few nicer features, but not a whole lot new to learn in terms of how to use the camera (which was nice). I hope this helps.
