As I mentioned, I am currently back in the States, in O-HI-O, enjoying everything the US has to offer... and by that, I mean food. I think I will gain at least 42 pounds while I am here, but that is all part of the process of taking it all in (and that means 12 mild chicken wings, buffalo chips and free refills of iced tea please) and living it up (yes, I will have a flurry with oreo, or perhaps snickers, um and yes I will have this 'boss' size you speak of and use the drive through window... my belly is too full from the beef jerky and macaroni salad to walk these days...).
I arrived on Friday and immediately had the chicken wings with my aunt at a place called BW3's, a mid-western mecca for chicken wings and beer. It immediately felt like I was home.

On Saturday, I hung out with my dad at Bob Evans, another mid-western established icon (did you know the first Bob Evans was in Ohio?), and of course pancakes and turkey sausage were the order of the day, and this is where I started the 'iced tea coma' that I had been hoping for
for weeks (meaning, I will drink enough free refils of iced tea until I induce myself into a coma!). Oh and I demanded he order biscuits with his omelet. And I could have kissed the waitress when she delivered honey with them there biscuits. Did I kiss her? Maybe I did. But I blame the iced tea coma.

I did not eat lunch that day - a girl has to keep her figure somehow, but I totally made up for it come suppa time. There is a place in my hometown that is new to me, called Cleets, and they also have some awesome wings on the menu, but instead we celebrated Cinco de Mayo, um yes, on the 2nd of May, that is how we roll in the States, and I gulped town $2 margaritas (can we get an Ole?!) and a stack of nachos that might have been big enough to eat me if I hadn't taken it on first. I might dream of these babies when I get back to Switzerland... or perhaps the mile high of fries I saw on the menu... or the half pound burgers. I am spoilt for choice all right. Man those nachos were goooood. I gladly picked off all the jalopenos (or hot things) and stuffed them in my mouth with nacho cheese and sour cream oozing from my lips.
Considering it is a Wadsworth, Ohio icon and considering it is Spring and considering that I demanded we go, we had Bidingers ice cream for dessert. I will never tire of this giant ice cream cone sign and the sweet words "Twinkle cone." Never. I was never cool enough to work at this place in high school, but I am now totally cool enough to take pictures of the place and blog about it. Funny how that happens. Twinkle... cone... Sorry, I don't have it out of my system just yet.
And no American dining experience would be complete without the 2 am stop at the border, and yes, that means Taco Bell baby. I think with that, and the drive in, my first complete day home in the US was a total success... speaking of which... what's for dinner? :)

Oh you lucky devil!!!
What I would do to pick up some greasy food (o-gawd, extra large fries with ketchup, please!)...
Hand me those jalapenos!
Woah! Those are some big pancakes!
Seriously... those pancakes are bigger than my face.
I would be crying, except I am going to Illinois in 3 days - I may just celebrate Cinco de Mayo on the 9th!
Oh dear, loving this post. Back in the States too. Had a Basque Chorizo Omelette in Boise, ID. Why can't they have breakfasts like this in Switzerland???
Hmmm... taco bell.
If you are in Wadsworth, then drive an hour and a half and come see me. I'll take you to Thurman Cafe for a 3/4 pound burger. :-)
I haven't heard of BW3's since I lived in Ohio for 1 year 10 years ago!!!! Great - now, thanks to you, I've got a craving!!! And Bob Evans... does a mean American salad! Oh, I'm so hungry!! Taco Bell - you're killing me here! What happens to us expats that when we return to America we need to eat a years worth of food in one or two weeks?!!!
PS. I think I've been to Wadsworth before, by the way.... I can't remember when or why but it sounds familiar.
Oh wow, I can not wait to get back for a visit. I'll be in the US in two weeks. Food and retail therapy, here I come!!!
Enjoy your trip!
Ooppps... spelled something wrong the first time.
I said...
I would be super MAD too if I was reading this otherwise. Except, I'll be back in the states too in 2 days!
There's definitely a list of to do's for every US trip and I think you hit almost all of them so far - greasy breakfast, Mexican food, soft serve, and Taco Bell. Now you need some Target time. :) Have fun!
I'm going back to Chicago in August and I'm already planning on eating my way through the city.
Buffalo Wild Wings, Dairy Queen, Jamba Juice...can't wait. :-)
Thanks for the comments everyone. Since that post I have stuffed in some more Mexican, some biscuits and lemonade at Cracker Barrel, at least another 145 iced teas and a couple of stops at convenient stores along the way... oh and DONUTS! Yes, 110% gluttony satisfaction.
Oh, and naechstehaltestelle, I have SO been to Target already. That retail therapy felt GOOODDD. So did the obscene bill at the GAP.
It's good to be home. But I miss Zurich, too. Thanks to everyone for the comments! I love it!
Wait, is anyone else bursting at the seams after this post ? I am so full, and I feel like I too just gained about 10 kilos ! ha ha! Awesome to read that you're seeing family and friends and visiting your old haunts -- and stuffing your face! Cheers to the iced tea, gosh - you must have to pee a lot! ha ha! :)
This makes me happy and sad. So many wonderful and enormous things to eat :)
