Ode to My Mom the Prize Winning Photographer

"Pew of Tranquility" by my Mom...

I don't know if I have mentioned it before or not, but my family seems to have become professional photographers overnight... My mom and brother couldn't stop shooting things on our trip to Lugano and Venice, and I had to promise to name my first born after my brother to get a few of his photos from our travels. Needless to say, I have been overshadowed by the photographic talent of my family of late.

So it didn't really surprise me at all when my mother recently entered a photo contest at a local church, the prize being that her photos would hang somewhere within the new church. And what do you know, two of her photos were accepted. We were beaming already.

Then last night, the church had a reception for the chosen photographers, and they had an awards ceremony to honor the best of the best. And what do you know... my Mom took away the first prize with the photo above entitled"Pew of Tranquility" taken on our trip to Lugano! That is right, FIRST PRIZE. Within a year of her joining a photography club and taking photography seriously, she has already received acclaim - and surprised us all, probably most of all herself. And to top it all off, she even sold a print.

I am really proud of her. I think it is great.

I admit, I always wondered where I got the eye and the lust for photography - although I am definately still an amateur! I thought it was from my dad, the one who took all the baby photos and carefully put together the photo albums that I treasure to this day. But low and behold, both of my parents have the talent and the eye.

Now if only I could get a clear shot of my Mom without the camera around! :)

Wow...I think you all take amazing photos. One really needs professional cameras to capture breaktaking pictures. I'll stick to my digital camera and shoot whatever comes out of it.

I really like your mother's picture a lot. My dad used to have loads of cameras when I was a kid.

Amazingly enough, my mom took this with a point and shoot camera. She took it on the manual mode, but it isn't an SLR or a professional camera at all. So with the right eye and a bit of fine tuning you can take great shots.

All of my photos are on a digital camera in auto mode. :)

Ooooh, she and your brother even have a tripod! Fance stuff there. I've been getting more and more into photography too over the past few months. I don't have a fancy camera, know nothing about special settings, development, etc. but I enjoy it. Thank goodness for digital cameras so I can continue taking about 300 pics to get that one really good shot :oP

Congrats to her on her prize- it is a beautiful picture!
